Does anyone know where we stay in The Dalles? Curious as to the proximity to downtown.

Route Talk mentions Sorosis Park. Likely the start point.

I believe it's the same place we camped in 2005, up near Columbia Gorge Community College. It's up on a ridge above the downtown core and more than a bit of a hike on foot...

Think you are correct about it being the same location as '05. If so, you are also correct that it's more than a bit of a hike into town. In '05 I wanted to watch the Monday Night Football opener. The nice commuity folks found me a sports bar in town. I ended up getting a ride into town from someone who had a van loaned by a local car dealership. All down hill into town. All up hill back to camp. I took a cab back to camp after it became clear my Eagles were going to lose. Maybe the commuity will have a shuttle service like Klamath Falls did in '12.

There some Great Local Wineries with Tasting Rooms in the Downtown area, Erin Glen is one.

If you will be driving and leaving a car in long term parking, you will need to drop your bag and bike at the campsite before heading to long term parking (unless you plan to ride your bike up to the site). Parking is closer to the finish area than the start near the waterfront.
