Any hints for next year?

Postby Rchan » Wed Sep 21, 2016 3:11 pm

We weren't able to make it this year. We ate too much in France for our 40th wedding anniversary, and felt we wouldn't be "ready" in time. From the pictures, I am glad we gave it a pass. But I'm wondering if any clues were given regarding next years route? 30th anniversary and all.

Why? It was fantastic!

The only hint was something about going "back to the start" or some reference to the ride's origins.

No real hints but they went to Crater Lake for 20 and 25. So maybe again?

Any idea when registration for 2017 will open? I'll be out of the country in early February so I may have to make a "plan B"

It always opens the day after the announcement, which should be in Feb sometime.

I think the internet works internationally now :)

Bicycle Rides NW Oregon Bike Ride "OBR" 2017 route is Sisters to Sisters next July and it is a clone of Cycle Oregon 2007's overnight sites. It would be interesting if both OBR and CO offered similar routes during the same year. Cycle Oregon is due for another Crater Lake visit IMO. Jan 24th here we come... :)

Kick Off announcement is January 24, 2017. If all goes like the past, the ride will open on the 25th. Registration is on-line so it should work anywhere in the world.

The only hint I've seen is that we're going back to where we started from. On the past rides page it says that the first CO started in Salem. There may be other versions out there. Or maybe it's where Oregon started from, however that might be interpreted. It says nothing about where we might go from that starting point,

Anniversary rides want to be signature rides and the most popular is Crater Lake (best ride in the whole state as far as I'm concerned) so I say bring it on for the 30th anniversary ride. CO has gone to Crater Lake in 92, 96, 98, 04, 07, & 12 and has approached it from every direction which means the ride can start from any number of cities. Soooooo (as Ken Chichester would say) with reference "back to the start", which is kind of open ended, my guess is back to Myrtle Creek and head east or north or south pick one but on to Crater Lake. That's all I got!

Never looked at it from that point. Thought we would have gone to Crater Lake this last year but a trip out to the coast made that difficult. Still thinking we'll start around Bend or Sister. We'll find out for sure on January 24th.

We did the tenth and fifteenth anniversary rides: Snake River to the Pacific. Surely the current crew knows better than to throw us into the same dust bowl in Mitchell, so I would not rule that sort of epic. Maybe start east of Halfway to make up for missing them due to fires in 2015?

And then there is the possibility that starting at the start refers to Ashland where the original idea came from, and then go (again) and look at burnt territory or north toward most of our homes, or east through some almost undiscovered territory.

I am really hoping for Crater Lake this year. I did not sign up last year because I really want to see Crater Lake. I am from Chicago, and love the northwest.

Question... if you do register for the ride, is the entire payment due at registration?

So from the last email from CO "And when you meet a wizard, and peer into the clear, blue abyss of their crystal ball" is definitely a reference to Wizard Island in Crater Lake and blue abyss to beautiful color of the water. Crater Lake here we come!
