Saturday June 1 climbed up McKenzie side of old pass. Snow gates still closed. 44 degrees at start 75 and sunny on top.I had forgotten that when you crest the west side at 5000ft there is 4 or so miles of mostly flat pavement winding through the lava fields until you get to the Dee Wright observatory right at the top of the climb from sisters. Many mountains in view. beautiful!!!
Yesterday I climbed Larch Mt from Troutdale area 4035ft and to my suprise the snow gates are still closed. no cars last 5 miles but some debris on road. 3weeks or so before my yearly ride up the west leg road to timberline lodge from Welches also about 4000ft. I should be ready for the first day out of John Day in september which is about 4300ft.
