April 27th, 08. Monster Cookie Metric Century

The season begins with an easy opening ride for 2008.

Salem, Oregon. Sunday April 27th
$14.00 pre-registration fee and an optional $6.00 if you want a box lunch at Champoeg Park.

The ride starts at the State Capitol Plaza Mall on the north side of the State Capitol Building.

A super easy and fast 60-mile spin from Salem to Champoeg Park and back.

A rest stop at 15-miles, one at Champoeg Park, and then the same rest stop on the return trip to Salem.

Have done this ride 5-times. Flat, flat and flat describes this course with a few bumps in the road that some call hills. Quiet roads once you get out of Salem with little traffic. If the weather cooperates (it can rain on this ride as well as wind) this can be a very fast or easy early season spin.

Draws up to 1300 or so riders depending on the weather. Monster cookies at the end.
Good Riding

I'm definitely doing this ride! I thought it was 65 miles?

1600 cyclists showed up Sunday for the Monster Cookie and we were greeted with nice slightly overcast skies and a warm day.

The 30 miles to Champoeg Park was fast as the slight tailwinds pushed you along at a very good pace and before we knew it we were at the park.

The trip back however took longer as the tailwinds now became a headwind. Nothing to hard but just enough to make you work.

As always tons of food at the reststops made for nice easy opening season spin.

Up next, the RACC ride.
Good Riding

This was my first ride in an organized bike event. I am so thrilled that I did it!

Yes! I did a report on it under the Week Ride section. I would love your feedback...
